Nanodrug delivery in plants

The significant applications of nanotechnology in health care and drug delivery have resulted in a tremendous upsurge of interest in agrinanotechnology with more effective and efficient methods of site- specific delivery. This would permit their application in plant pathology treatments and their use in studies of plant-pathogen interaction. Nanomaterials are being developed that offer the opportunity to administer pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers in a more efficient and safe manner by controlling precisely when and where they are released. The possible effects and overall fate of different nanomaterials in plants and their exposure pathways in the environment has produced great attention. Nano delivery has also shown its ability in modifying the genetic constitution of the crop plants thereby helping in further improvement of plants. I would like to explore the possibility of the usage of silicon based nanoparticles for nanodrug delivery in plants.
